Modern student life
We gave a free consultation and helped these students work constructively with their private landlord to address health and maintenance concerns. Three of the six in house had fallen ill with nasty respiratory viruses.
During our 15-minute free consultation, they shared photos of their bathroom and joined a video call so we could assess the situation and explain how issues such as lack of ventilation, cold surfaces, and excess humidity can contribute to mould growth.
We noted a few factors—including the absence of an extractor fan, no bathroom heating, worn mastic, and cracked tiles—and explained how these can impact the property. We also provided a clear, professional template to help them open a positive and solutions-focused conversation with their landlord.
We hope to hear some good news soon.
First time home buyers woes
New owners of a Victorian house were shocked to find mould growing behind wallpaper-Even though they had paid for a survey prior to buying. After a site visit and investigation we were able to establish the damp was coming from next door. Luckily they were good neighbours and allowed us access so we were able to establish that behind a wood panel a previous occupant had stapled plastic sheeting to the wood trapping moisture. The neighbours have agreed to remove it and we have recommended a drying out period. We were able to contain the hazard using our HEPA vacuum and physical removal using non biocide cleaning to remove the mould. This has restored it to a safe condition. The clients are due to refurbish the house so were relieved to find the cause.
